DVD is a storage format that allows consumers to watch it home and it be in their control, they can do things like play, pause, fast foward, rewind, stop, add subtitles whenever they like. DVD has usual conventions which includes a play button and a main which comes before the film starts allowing the viewer to have a full range of choices before they even play the movie. Some DVD's have advertisement in the beginning, advertising other block buster movies which may be smiliar to the target audience or the same genre of the movie their watching. DVD's also have outtakes, chapter, subtitles and it allows you to change the language. DVD's really gives the chance for the viewer to be free for example if they had already started watching the movie they can easily go to the chapter index and play from what scene they were watching from instead of watching the movie from the beginning, which means they are less restricted and this is why DVD's are useful.
For many years DVD has been a source to a lot of people especially great lover's of movies. However in this day and age technology is really taking over we have devices like Laptops, Ipad, Tablets and Phones with all this new things coming in old formats are slowly dying and getting lost so to answer the question, YES! the DVD is dead. Especially with the Internet these days where you can easily access things online with sites like Netflix, Love Film and not only movie wise but TV shows now even have demand online sites like (BBC iPlayer, ITVPlayer, MORE4) more people are using these sources, these days nobody goes out and buy's a DVD player yet only go and buy movies especially the new generation everyone has become so used to this new technology that a lot of old technology is dying out. Sometimes you don't even need to be near a laptop, you can just go on your phone or iPad which is quick access whereas DVD you have to physically be there to put it in and watch it. Another thing DVD can take up space in your home. These new technologies have had an effect on stores such as HMV, Blockbuster as buisnesses have realised we do not purchase DVD's anymore because of the easy access of streaming movies online.
The thing that DVD and demand streaming have in common is the copyright issues which is to protect the orginial creator, because the people that do it illegally get paid more money than the originals so this helps to catch them out.
Although I say the DVD is dead, like I said the DVD has been around for years and yes they may still have consumers such as the older generations the ones who were around when it was in good use and also consumers who still do always want to have a copy of their favourtie movie. However the disadvantage of not having a DVD is that sometimes the signal for the internet can disappoint especially when you really want to watch something, whereas DVD's you have to physically be in contact with it for it to break and have a scratch on it, videos may sometimes take long with the non-stop buffering and different ads are always popping up in the middle of your movie which can be very annoying, there may be age restriction and monthly supsricptions. Also for lovers of films who have been to watch a movie at the cinema and it comes on TV but unfortunatley don't have the TV channel they don't have to be stressed because they already have the movie and can put it in the DVD and watch it over and over again.
In conclusion I still stand by what I said that the DVD is dead, although it has been very useful and has allowed us to watch movies at the comfort of our own home the wave is slowly dying out and and soon it may not even exist anymore, everything will become dependant on the internet and I dont think there's anyway you can reinvent the DVD whereas which these new devices there is always a reinvention.
