Evaluation For Photography

In this assignment, I had to create a set of photos which will be appropriate for my chosen choice of magazine. I love being creative and using props so I decided to use a prop for my pictures. In the studio I was able to experiment with Gel lighting, lighting itself, shadows and light graffiti this allowed me to get a clear understanding of photography and the different elements that go into taking a good photograph. It also allowed me to see the different effects and mood it has on pictures and how you can use different lightings to create a certain mood with a picture which helped with my final idea.

To start off I had to a create a mood board and different visuals that would go into my picture, I had decided that I wanted to use bubbles as a prop and because I was taking my pictures in a TV studio I didn't just want it to have a boring surronding but also add a different element to my picture which is why I came up with this concept. I then went  on the internet and did some research on these types of imagery using bubbles for my mood board and what I found is that they use colourful surrondings to reflect the bubbles which is what I had in my mind I wanted it to be colourful because of the magazine I wanted I wanted my photograph to be in. After my mood board came together my idea came together even more because I had noticed that the pictures only had young teen girls in them which then helped me decide on the kind of model I wanted to use for my photograph. I also went back and looked at previous photography work of mine and I was very fund of the use of Gel lighting because of the brightness it had given those previous pictures it would be very useful for my final photography picture. Having a clear understanding of what I wanted my idea to be I went to the studio and began work on my photography. I used just one model and it was a female because I wanted the product im using to able to young girls who would want to go out and buy it once they saw it in magazine. The magazine I chose was a young UK teen/children 7-12 year olds magazine called "Girl Talk", I chose this magazine because it appeals to young teen girls which is the concept behind my photo, their magazine is also very colourful which is what I was going for by using the gel lighting in this magazine they do a lot of advertising for toys, clothes and things that young girls are interested in which is why I think my photographs would be suitable for this particular magazine. Also in my photo the main focus point was the bubbles and I think I was able to portray that  and having a young teen girl as the model is suitable for my magazine choice because it is a teen magazine for girls and once they see another teen girl with it they would want to go out and buy it.

During this assignment I thought my communication skills were good with the model because I instructed her on exactly how I wanted her to pose and how I wanted her to use to the prop which I achieved in the photographs. I feel like I also used used some good shots and angles for my photography.  My contraints is that I should of used more than one model to get a variety of photos and see which one would turn out better. Unfortuanetly the gel lighting did not reflect back on the photographs the way it should have to create the fun and bubbly feel to it which let the photograph down because that was one of the main key points. I should of also given myself enough time to re-do the photos where the gel lighting will be showing.

If I had the oppourtunity to do it again I definetly would, I would manage my time better in a way that if there is any mistakes I can go back and re-do them for a better result. I would think about using more than one model and also the use of colour making sure that it reflects on my picture if thats the sort of mood I was looking for.

After getting feed back from my peers they also agreed with the colour, that there wasn't enough colour and there not being colour left the picture quite empty and plain. However they said they liked the fact I was able to capture the bubbles where at some points the model would be out of focus and the bubbles would be the main focus which made it creative.
