CWC Paperwork STAFF AWARDS

As a class we were given the opportunity to organise the staff awards, in which we had to go out and shoot interviews with staff members talking about the staff member that they nominated for awards such as long service, retiree and excellence in teaching, filming a pre title sequence and title sequence and filming the staff awards on the night. During this project I was given the role of  being one of the interviewers. This meant I had to come up with questions to ask the staff and book interviews.

Prior to us starting this project as a class we went on a trip and visited Loose Women at ITV Studios, this helped us as a class get some insight on what happens behind the set during a live show and what we can expect when we do the CWC staff awards.

Within my role I had to come up with different questions for the different categories. The awards ceremony was split into 3 sections which were for; Long Service, Retirees and Excellence Awards. such as Individual award for Teaching and Learning, Group Award for Teaching and Learning, award for Support for Students, award for Promoting Student Diversity, award for External Customer Services, award for Internal Customer Services, award for Leadership & Managment. I also had to come up with a template to send to the staff  asking them to book an interview and contributed to sending some emails at the very beginning of the project.

After sending off the emails we soon then got replies, which meant we could start shooting some interviews. Everyday the producer would tell us we have an interview at a certain time and the location so I knew where I was going and what time to be there for. During the interviews I would allow the interviewee to have a look at the questions so they would get comfortable and have an idea of what to say and also give them time to write down what they want to say so they are prepared and we would not have to do many retakes. Overall I think I handle it very well, at the beginning I did find it very nerve racking but throughout the process I got comfortable doing it and if I was to do it over again I would because it helped with confidence. It was sometimes difficult when we lost footage which meant we had to redo an interview. It was also hard when some of the camera crew wouldn't show up and we have interviews in the morning, sometimes places that we needed to have the interviews would be booked and as the deadline was drawing closer things got difficult but as a classed I believed we pulled together at the end.

On the day of the event I was assigned the role as floor manager, I was happy to get this role because prior to this event I had been floor manager before which I enjoyed, so I was already sure with what I was doing which put me more at ease on the night of the show. As floor manager I was in charge of seeing to everyone on the floor like the camera crew if they needed anything they would ask me. During rehearsals I wanted to make sure everyone had what they needed before the event started such as having a spare battery and making sure everything was working for them. I also had a talk back where I was communicating with the crew and passing messages throughout. At times the talk back would keep cutting off which made me a bit nervous that it could happen during the show but luckily it didn't and everything went smoothly.

During the live event at the very beginning there were technical difficulties so I was asked to pass the message to tell them to stall a bit longer whiles things were getting fixed, which made everyone panic. I was then introduced to the audience as the floor manager when all eyes were on me which got me nervous and the audience was told whatever I do they would copy so if I clapped the audience would corrospond. Overall im impressed with my performance and I'm with happy with how I handled it.

After talking to our client we got feedback based on the award night and the overall performance of our class. One of the problems our clinet said we faced was that it did not start on time and that was due to some techinal difficulties but as a team we handled the pressure well. Sometimes there was a lack of communication between the teams which caused some confusion & also some confusion within the nominations of who nominated who was not accurate but overall everything came together in the end.

We found that the stuff really enjoyed themselves and loved the humour at the beginning with the pre title sequence which set the tone, some staff members even got dressed up which shows how excited they were and made it seem professional. They were proud of the efforts we all put in. She also said staff members got emotional during the Mandela clip that we showed of the college clapping in memory of him, which showed the unity within the college. Staff members were also very emotional when receveing awards.

Overall as a class I think we came together eventually. At times it was difficult when people would show up late or not come in at all which meant sometimes we had to rush things. Others really worked hard to get things done. I definetly think this was such a learning experience and next time round we will know what to do and what not to do.
