Tate Modern

Tate Modern is a modern art gallery that is located in London. This gallery shows international modern and contemporary art from 1900.

VIDEOS:

1. One of the displays in the gallery is called 'Andrea Fraser' who was shown having a conversation with Chris Dercon.

Andrea Fraser creates a projection of different effects where she interacts with the image on the opposite wall and she interacts with the viewer

2. One of the displays in the gallery is called 'Tiny Deaths 1993' by an artist called Bill Viola. Bill Viola is a contemporary video artist who is one of the most important practitioners in over forty years.

Tiny Deaths was created in 1993. In this video it is of someone standing up which has a dark background but you are hardly able to see the actual features of the person. The light and sound of the image makes us see a small bit of drama that's going on in the image.

3. One of the videos in the gallery is called 'Fase: Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich, 1982' by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.

In her choreography, De Keersmaeker explores the relationship between music and dance and aims to articulate the basic principles of the musical composition rather than allowing the dance to simply illustrate the music.

Conclusion:

After watching Andrea Frasers video installation if left me wondering where her emotions were being provoked from and I also found it a little bit boring because of where she was postioned because she was just placed in the centre of the camera.
Anne's work was interesting because it showed us in her element, her profession which is dancing, it had a lot of movement involved and I like that the shadows of her and her partner are shown to add that theatrical effect to it, although I didnt like the fact that there was so much movement going because to me it seemed very busy and all over place however if a viewer was watching it would keep their eyes planted and following their every move.
The video installation for Bill Viola was different to the other installation's because it was in black and white, I think what Bill Viola was trying to convey in the installation was dark emotions as you could harldy see the person's face and that this person is trapped in their emotions but are trying to find a way out with the small light that is shown, which I think people can relate to when they watch his piece the same as Andrea's one which also conveys emotions. I also think that Andrea's installation can relate to the viewers because it seems as if she is talking directly to them and making them involved in what she is trying to convey. Others may be drawn to Anne's because they might have a passion for dancing and like the way she tried to express dancing in her own unique way to make it more intriguing to watch.
